Returning to the subject of Divinorum release #1, this release explores the concept of ego death. Chiefly discussed by psychonauts, ego death is notoriously difficult to define and believe in. Some take the word “death” too literally, questioning how the ego can die permanently—after all, an ego stills exists to talk about the experience.

The ego is merely the persistent sense of self that we consider separate from the rest of the world: a distinct and unique I. Death is not a permanent cessation of the ego, but rather a permanent change in one’s relationship to the ego. During the ego death process the idea of separation falls away. The reality that we “experience” through bio-chemical responses to input from the five senses falls away. A reality and sense of self created by the construct of language falls away.

Meant to be an interactive, sensory experience to draw attention to the present through the recognition of the ego. Transparency-printed images can be put together in different ways to create new visions.

Transparency-printed words and phrases can be placed in different configurations to create new meanings.

The included sound pieces (by Improper) give auditory representation of the process of ego death.

Included blindfold and nail sculpt the sensory input.

Please note that Divinorum releases are rough, raw, handmade, imperfect. No two copies of a release are exactly alike.

Divinorum is an art-zine series and label with an emphasis on the actual experience of physical objects, music or otherwise (Digital versions are offered as a necessary evil), often making use of magickal themes to explore very real psychological conditions and events. Aspects of culture-jamming and especially ARG are used to help propel the ongoing narrative and elevate the real-world experience.
